This may be old news to many, but I thought it should be mentioned in PB

Thanks for posting.

I can't get into the forums anymore because I seem to have forgotten
my password. I tried the password retrieve function but the captcha
keeps rejecting. So I'll just say it here:

I didn't know Bob Zale personally, but I considered him a friend. His
compilers are an amazing piece of work. My condolences to his familiy,
friends and staff.

Maybe. It depends on whether or not anyone at the company knows anything
about programming, and/or is able to bring onboard someone who does and is
willing to keep the "BASIC" in PowerBASIC. (See also: VB.Net.)

Most likely, yes.

I was worried about that in the last days, since their website was, well,
online but empty, but that's no longer the case and seems due to some
reorganisation. Nevertheless, during that time I felt confirmed in my
opinion that usenet groups are superior to a single web forum hosted on one
single server ...

"During that time"? How about "always"?

The way things work in most companies, any development project
that would take five years is likely never to get finished at all.

Yep, of course. I was just a bit "unprecise". ;-)

But sitting there without any further information once again reminded me
very clearly how fast a communitiy can become extinct as soon as it is
based upon the good will of just one person / company.
