This may be a radical idea, but by golly, I am going to post something!
see next post. BTW, I will be crossposting to the newsgroup I moderate
so that I can tell my moderation robot to pre-approve any posts that
come in from comp.lang.basic.powerbasic/alt.lang.powerbasic readers,

I forgot that I have my modbot set to only allow crossposts to one
other newsgroup, so I had to drop comp.lang.basic.powerbasic's
drooling half-brother, alt.lang.powerbasic. :)

Oh, I check pretty much every day.

But that's not really a fair comparison. It's been so long since I set up
the Outlook Express 'synchronize newsgroup' options I no longer have a clue
how to change it.

The obsolete program YARN (Yet Another Reader of News)
automatically checks subscribed groups and fetches all
articles. Newsgroups which are only lightly frequented
I consign to YARN. Life is too short to keep up with the
heavy groups, so I used search terms in google groups beta for
them.

Cool, one of some other newsreaders for DOS. ;-)

By the way: I'm using CrossPoint (called XP <g>). XP it's a Freeware-
DOS mail- & newsreader for Fido, Usenet (UUCP, IMAP, POP3, SMTP & NNTP),
ZNet, QWK and some other network standards. There a some Win32, OS/2
and Linux developer trees available too.

I'm reading these newsgroups every day with XP from my own newsserver
(news.pbhq.de), incl. the PowerBASIC Inc. webforums, some german and
austrian PowerBASIC "Webforen" (all available on my newsserver with
_one_ nntp netcall).

But I think, PowerBASIC programming is the topic of this newsgroup
and so, here a some links to my PowerBASIC clients for CrossPoint
(all written with PB/DOS, PB/CC and/or PB/Win):

http://www.pbhq.de/ukaw/ - Imap, Pop3, Smtp & Nntp Win32/Client,
(PowerBASIC/CC & PowerBASIC/Win)

http://www.pbhq.de/ukad/ - Imap, Pop3, Smtp & Nntp DOS/Client
(PowerBASIC/DOS)

http://www.pbhq.de/pbnews/ - PB Webforums to Nntp client
(PowerBASIC/CC)

http://www.pbhq.de/newsforen/ - the newsgrouplist of my newsserver
(access to the postings for registered
users only)

http://www.pbhq.de/search.html - an alternativ PowerBASIC search engine,
based on the database of my newsserver
my filebase and the ABC pakets
(the Index-Tool and CGI-application
is written in PowerBASIC/CC)

Regards,

I use Agent; when I tell it to "get new headers in subscribed groups" it
checks them both.

I'm here too. I check in three or four times per week.
